Description

The Vlad Dracula Tarot is a 78-card tarot deck and booklet based on the life of Vlad the Impaler, the infamous mediaeval ruler of Romania who inspired Bram Stoker's legendary vampire.

The 78 original woodcuts of the deck depict scenes of cruelty and cunning masterfully drawn by Russian artist Nikita Vuimin from instructions provided by Travis McHenry, author of the Occult Tarot and Angel Tarot and one of the foremost occultists of the modern era.

Each image portrays an episode in Dracula's life and is perfectly paired with a tarot card that reveals its astrological and occult meaning. This combination of design and esoteric knowledge results in a historically accurate deck that can be used as a divination tool or simply cherished as a macabre work of art.

The Fool - The peasant and his wife

Vlad Dracula came upon a peasant farmer wearing clothes that were full of holes and didn’t fit. Upon hearing from the farmer’s wife that he brought home plenty of flax, Vlad Dracula ordered her to be impaled. The peasant farmer pleaded for his wife to be spared, but Vlad said: ‘Your wife has been negligent in her duties despite having a husband who works and tills the land. You will be much happier with another wife.’ Vlad warned the farmer’s new wife to be more diligent in her household duties.

Often new beginnings, either positive or negative, come from outside forces greatly disrupting your life. Sometimes the universe knows better than you do that it is time to move forward to a better place.

The High Priestess - Vlad’s Transylvanian princess

Vlad Dracula had two wives and several mistresses. Several historians believe his first wife was an illegitimate daughter of John Hunyadi, a Hungarian nobleman who was Vlad’s ally or adversary depending on the current political situation. Vlad most likely married her to help secure his northern frontier against her father, who was partially responsible for Vlad’s first exile from Wallachia.

Not only can The High Priestess reveal mysteries, she is also a keeper and guardian of secrets. This card might indicate a close confidant, one who knows your inner thoughts.

The Wheel of Fortune - ‘These suffered according to their deeds.’

Two wandering Catholic monks from Hungary visited Târgoviște palace to ask for alms. They were separately given a tour of the castle and the courtyard and shown bodies impaled on stakes and broken on the wheels of carts. Vlad asked the monks if he had done well.

The Wheel of Fortune is viewed as being a positive card as it represents the constantly changing circumstances we all live with. Things do not always go your way but eventually your situation will improve
